And also one of the reasons exacerbating the situation is unchecked and unmonitored usage of water.

In case of residential societies, bulk water is bought either through tankers or underground pipelines to the common overhead tank of the apartment which is then used for consumption of the individual households. In majority of the cases the water charges are borne by apartment association and the water usage by individual household is not monitored. There is wastage of water due to its incessant usage by individuals also due to leakages which the individual might be unaware of.
